Astonishing X-men #51

Astonishing X-men #51 is out today, with Northstar and Kyle's wedding as the main event. While coming in the middle of a storyarc that has nothing to do with it, the issue is almost exclusively dedicated to the wedding, yet it still feels a bit short and glossing over the controversy that people expected from it. There isn't much "choosing sides" here, not much conservative drama, and I actually like that. The wedding feels much more real with the main problems being the grooms being nervous about it.

The art does the event enough justice, even though Mike Perkins isn't going to be a favorite of mine any time soon. The real gem here is Marco Djurdjevic's variant cover (posted above) which blows me away. The digital image doesn't do it justice - in real life the coloring is perfect and the artwork is just breathtaking.

All in all, Marvel's first gay wedding passes with flying colors. Can't wait to see what half-baked sensationalist rip-off DC will come up with...

GOProud Endorses Mitt Romney

Wow. Just... wow. A "gay" group endorses a candidate who pledged to NOM that he would write discrimination in the Constitution of the US? Welcome to being gay and Republican.

From their press release:

“President Obama and his friends on the left want this election to be about divisive social issues, because the President’s record on jobs and the economy is indefensible,” continued LaSalvia.  “At this critical juncture, we need a President with the experience and expertise to turn this economy around.  Someone who knows how the free markets work – former Governor Mitt Romney is that candidate.”
“Not only does President Obama not understand how the free markets work – he is openly hostile to free market capitalism,” said LaSalvia.  “President Obama’s repeated attacks on Governor Romney’s private sector record underscore this President’s fundamental lack of understanding of how our economy works.  Instead of demonizing free markets, President Obama should be focused on creating an economic environment that encourages free market investments and creates jobs.”
“It is clear that the ‘hope and change’ of candidate Obama in 2008, has been replaced with ‘jealousy and envy,’” said LaSalvia.  “Obama’s divisive attacks appeal to the absolute worst in Americans.”
GOProud is the first and only organization representing gay Americans to endorse Governor Romney’s Presidential bid.  “The truth is that this election is too important to wait or to sit on the sidelines,” continued LaSalvia.  “We plan on spending every day between now and November working to make Obama a one term President.”

Well, of course you are the  only organization, you morons! The rest aren't demented...

Another Federal Judge Rules DOMA Section 3 Unconstitutional

They just keep piling. This one is in NY. Edie Windsor was required to pay estate taxes after the death of her wife, Thea Spyer, which she would not have been owed had their marriage been recognized by the federal government.

Regardless whether a more "searching" form of rational basis scrutiny is required where a classification burdens homosexuals as a class and the states' prerogatives are concerned, at a minimum this court "must insist on knowing the relation between the classification adopted and the object to be attained. The search for the link between classification and objective gives substance to the equal protection analysis. Additionally, as has always been required under the rational basis test, irrespective of the context, the court must consider whether the government's asserted interests are legitimate. Pursuant to those established principles, and mindful of the Supreme Court's jurisprudential cues, the court finds that DOMA's section 3 does not pass constitutional muster.

Metro Weekly has the whole story.

9th Circuit Denies En Banc Hearing

Yes! The 9th Circuit refused to allow an en banc hearing of the Prop 8 case. Here's the ruling itself, and now begins the 3 months stay during which time the hate groups can try and get the Supreme Court to kick their asses too. After the grace period has passed, Prop 8 will be struck down.

9th Circuit to Decide on Course of Action on Prop 8 Trial Tomorrow

According to Prop 8 Trial Tracker:

If that happens, Judge Reinhardt’s narrow opinion stands, and the proponents of Proposition 8 can then petition for certiorari at the Supreme Court. If the Supreme Court were to deny review, the Ninth Circuit’s decision would stand, and Proposition 8 would be struck down. Gay and lesbian couples would be allowed to marry in California. If the Supreme Court grants review, there will be briefing and oral argument and a decision next year.

How real those numbers are I can't say, but I like them.

Bryan Fischer: It's Totally Ok To Discriminate Agains Same Sex Couples

Good times with crazy Right Wing nutjob Bryan Fischer. The good news - he explicitly agrees DOMA discriminates against us. Which is all that matters. The moment you agree with this premise, and you fall back on religion, the battle is as good as lost for you.
