"Every Time People Have Voted on Gay Marriage, They Have Voted Against It... Update: Never Mind!"

Nobody can deny that marriage equality won on Tuesday, or that it won in a dramatic reversal of the trend. The biggest argument hate groups have used - that it's all the workings of us evil homofascist, helped by "activist judges and politicians", and that when the people have a say, they reject it - was not just tentatively dented, it was crashed, killed and destroyed in an across the board landslide that left no room for doubt and no way to call it a fluke - in FOUR states people were asked to stand with marriage equality or against it, and in ALL FOUR they chose to stand on the side of justice and human dignity. It is a resounding defeat of bigotry that has already changed the marriage discourse forever, and will have serious implications in future fights.

Meanwhile, hate groups, GOP nut jobs and self-appointed Christian Neanderthal moralists all across America are - as Joe hilariously puts it - "having the sadz", and whining their precious hearts out. They were outspent, the poor dears, after pouring millions into pointless hatred. The Four were "deeply liberal". It was an "uphill battle". Gotta love a language change and role reversal. All in all, this is what Tony Perkins, Maggie Galaghar, Brian Brown and the ever so magically quaffed Kalley Yanta have to say about what happened on November 6:

After FRC Shooting, Brian Brown Calls for "Civility"

After a man shot a security guard at the Family Research Council's headquarters in DC yesterday, now the hate groups are having a field day piously condemning gays for being the rabid dogs they've always claimed we were (never mind that the shooter has yet to be identified as gay). Now Brian Brown from NOM calls for "civility". Lucky for us though, not everyone is a moron and the CNN host actually confronts Brown on his hypocrisy.

I am literally stunned into silence by this. Hypocrisy on a cosmic level: when we're boycotting Starbucks, Home Depot or JC Penny, it's "standing up for marriage", but when people do it to your side, it's "hateful gays bullying us". Really?

REALLY?!

Not to mention the flabbergasting temerity of saying that Dan Kathy's family is being "persecuted simply for their personal beliefs". Because nothing says "personal" quite as well as $2 000 000 donated to hate groups.

I just hope it's just Brown being evil, and not outright demented and not seeing the gigantic absurdity of what he's saying.

Clash of the Titans: Brian Brown VS Dan Savage

If you've been following the gay drama in the last week or so, where Dan Savage gave the "stop believing the bullshit in the Bible" speech, and all the hate groups got their panties in a twist about it (details and video here, plus more coverage here and here). Well, today Brian Brown - the leader of NOM - issued this hilarious challenge:

"Let me lay down a public challenge to Dan Savage right here and now: You want to savage the Bible? Christian morality? Traditional marriage? Pope Benedict? I'm here, you name the time and the place and let's see what a big man you are in a debate with someone who can talk back. It's easy to make high-school girls cry by picking on them. Let's pick on someone our own size! I'm here, any time, any place you name, Dan Savage. You will find out out how venal and ridiculous your views of these things are if you dare to accept a challenge."

As you could imagine, only a few hours later, and in the spirit of total awesomeness, Dan responded with this:

I can't wait to see if Brown will actually go through with it, because I firmly believe this challenge was never meant to be actually accepted. Either way, stay tuned for more hilarity.

P.S. - Few things are funnier than the word "nomblog", and at the moment I can't think of any of them.

Family Equality Council: "The Outspoken generation"

Family Equality Council - "the national organization that connects, supports and represents the two million children in this country being raised by parents who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender" - launched a new project, titled "The Outspoken Generation. From their page:

The program is designed to empower these young adults to raise their voices in support of LGBT families by speaking publicly at community events across the country, in front of local, state and national legislative bodies, and directly to the media.

Family Equality Council Executive Director Jennifer Chrisler said the program was borne out of conversations with LGBT families over the last year. However, she said the need for the initiative became increasingly clear following recent news that the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) considered a strategy of recruiting the children of LGBT parents to criticize their own families. It’s clear that NOM will stop at nothing in their efforts to demonize LGBT parents, and their malicious attempts to spread misinformation about these families will not go unanswered.

“We are now seeing the first generation of children, who were lovingly raised by LGBT parents, coming into young adulthood,” said Chrisler. “We know, from our conversations with these young people and from our experience with them, that they are terrific kids who are thriving and succeeding in life by any measure you choose to use. Many of them are now telling us that they are eager to tell the truth about their families. Who better to refute the myths and lies of hate groups like NOM than our grown up children?”

I love the idea and can't wait to see videos of kids with same-sex parents. Here's a great video from Zach Wahls - one of the two co-chairs of the program, who became famous after his speech in front of the Iowa House Judiciary Committee.

NOM's Uglyness Exposed, Part III - Now With Republican Twist

After the National Organization for Marriage was ordered in court to make their financial dealings public, we have seen their agenda to "drive a wedge between gays and blacks", as well as the plan to find "non cognitive celebrities" to promote gay-hate. Today, another cute tidbit from NOM's disgrace came up, only this time it points to an altogether different type of marriage-deterrent (if signing Evil Pledges of Evil is any indication) - Republican runner for presidential nomination, Mitt Romney. Huffpost has an article about it. Seems Romney gave $10 000 to NOM in 2008, but did so sneakily, through a PAC. Here's a bit of the article:

But when Romney eventually made his donation, he did so quietly, and through an unusual channel. Records filed by Romney's Free and Strong America PAC with the Federal Election Commission did not include details of that $10,000 donation. Nor did NOM's public 990 form. In fact, record of the payment was only uncovered Friday when the pro-gay rights Human Rights Campaign was sent a private IRS filing from NOM via a whistleblower. The Human Rights Campaign shared the filing with The Huffington Post.

Asked for comment, an aide to Romney said that the donation was made through the Alabama chapter of the Free and Strong America PAC. State records confirm this. However, the 990 NOM filed lists the donation as having come from PO Box 79226 in Belmont, Massachusetts.

Romney is far from the only national politician to take advantage of Alabama's lax campaign finance and disclosure laws. Several others have set up PACs in the state, for the purposes of raising money. Alabama does not put a limit on the individual amount that a donor can give to a PAC.

But the secretive nature of the donation raised the eyebrows of Human Rights Campaign officials. Romney, after all, didn't have to send his check to NOM through the Alabama chapter of his PAC.

I wonder how much more will surface from NOM's financial documents. Can't wait to see their further humiliation.

I love how the interviewer is obviously not cool with the lapses of logic this woman exhibits. Also, normalizing the idea of homosexuality would IN NO WAY reduce the risk of gay teen suicides...
